Set off from central Paris for a journey through the French countryside to Giverny, the small Normandy village where Claude Monet lived with his family of eight children from 1883 until his death in 1926, a total of 43 years. Travel by luxury air-conditioned coach while your licensed guide introduces the life and work of the artist.
Begin your visit in the Clos Normand flower garden, designed by Monet as a work of art. Walk the central path leading to the house, bordered by nasturtiums and roses, and admire the multicoloured flower beds filled with tulips, narcissi, daffodils, irises, and peonies. Continue through the fruit tree orchard to the famous water garden, known for its water lilies, weeping willows, and green-painted Japanese bridge.
Then visit Monet’s house, where he lived and worked for many years. Discover the blue reading room leading to the larder and Claude Monet’s studio, where he worked until 1889. These rooms, along with his private apartments, have been reconstructed with the original furniture already in the house in Monet’s day. See the sunny yellow dining room, the blue-and-white earthenware dishes, the kitchen tiled with Rouen tiles, and one of the world’s most important collections of Japanese prints. Guided tours are not permitted inside the house due to limited space.
Before returning to Paris, enjoy free time in the village and visit the gift and book shop, housed in the former studio where Monet painted his huge Water Lilies canvases. The shop stretches over more than 3,200 square feet and offers postcards, posters, teas, books, official Claude Monet tableware, flower seeds, and plants.
